Looking through the business fog

Rethinking the traditional view of a leader who can see ahead into the future.

A traditional view of a leader may be of someone setting the course for the future, with a better cognitive ability to see what lies ahead on the path. In reality, leaders have to deal with a somewhat hazy and uncertain outlook. Of course, they have to make decisions, but they have no idea what the world will be like in, say, ten years. Their strategy involves making long term decisions now, not knowing what the long term will be like. Unexpected events will happen, that is clear. The key is being able to respond.
